Sikkim is a home to large varieties of flora and fauna from tropical to alpine. Sikkim isdivided into three zones. The tropical,the temperate and the alpine. Upto 10,000ftthere are terraced farmland and from 10,000 above vegetation are more alpine where plants like cardamom, oranges, apples, potatoes are cultivated. The junglesin the lower altitude are teeming with bamboos, fern, walnuts, sal and oaks,even the Orchids are found in thesejungles. In Sikkim one can find almost 600species of Orchids. among these Nobile Orchid or Dendrobium nobile is the state flower of Sikkim. There are about 34 species of Rhododendrons in Sikkim which are mostly found in the higher altitudes. Among these Rhododendron Niveum is the state tree of Sikkim. In the northern plateau of Sikkim animals like ducks and wild asses often greets the visitors. In the lower altitude jungles animals like wild cats, mongoose, house sparrow, langoor, leopard cats, bears etc are found.In the higher and alpine region snow leopard and wild ass are found. the other species of animals found in the alpine regions are Himalayan Black Bear, Shapi, Yak, Red panda, Blue Sheep etc among these Animals Red Panda is the state animal.
